I fell in love with cold wax medium after opening my first jar. I was inspired to try it after viewing a gorgeous encaustic painting in a gallery in Aspen.  I came home and began investigating encaustic…which entails painting in layers with heated beeswax. During the course of my research I stumbled upon the cold wax technique, which involves making art with wax, sans heat. Curious to learn more I poured over Rebecca Crowell and

Jerry McLaughlin’s excellent book on using cold wax medium. I began experimenting with cold wax and oil paints and felt right at home with its intuitive feel and versatility. About a year later I attended a cold wax workshop offered by a local artist and gained further confidence about my creative process.  Cold wax and oil yield great texture, depth, vibrant color and tone and lends itself well to layering and multimedia.
